The Artesa Carneros Chardonnay is first and foremost about aromatics, and the techniques used are designed to retain the signature Carneros aromas of lemon-citrus and white blossom while accentuating the minerality and vivid, fresh fruit flavors of citrus and stone fruits in the wine. Partial barrel fermentation, malolactic and lees stirring create layers, imparting hints of cedar and honey and wrapping the flavors in a rich, generously-textured mouthfeel.
Connoisseurs' Guide - "2012 won high praise from vintners even before harvest began, and, if we still see Chardonnay as something of a mixed bag in the vintage, this absolutely delectable offering hits all the right fruity marks and then goes several steps more. It is deep in very precise, optimally ripened appley fruit, and it is decked out with plenty of sweet oak, and, if still a bit ragged around the edges, it is nicely balanced and is waiting to grow. It will need another year in which to better knit together, but it should improve for several more, and it gets thumbs up for fine value."

Artesa's architecturally-acclaimed facility opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991, dedicated solely to méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. But in 1997, with the arrival of a world-class winemaker and a $10 million conversion, the winery shifted focus dramatically. Artesa was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999.
Artesa (ahr TESS uh) means "craftsman" and connotes "handcrafted" in Catalan, language of Barcelona and their owner, Codorníu, one of the world's largest and oldest wineries. The Codorníu Group actually consists of six spectacular wineries whose wines are enjoyed daily in over 100 countries around the globe. So, while Artesa is a relative newcomer to Napa, their heritage is rich. They share five centuries of history with 15 generations of a remarkable winemaking family. Technically a part of Napa Valley, the Carneros region straddles both Sonoma & Napa counties. It's the Napa region closest to the San Francisco peninsula and the San Pablo Bay, which is instrumental in controlling the climate of the area. The winds from the San Pablo bay create a cool weather pattern ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Notable FactsBoth Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Carneros are delicate, yet complex, with firm structure and acidity. And while the pair are the most popular varieties of the region, some winemakers have branched out, particularly with Syrah. The cool climate Syrah of Carneros is well structured and stylistically similar to Syrah from the Northern Rhone, though often fuller-bodied.

One of my favorites. Vanilla, caramel, nutty undertones.Andy L, Florida - Cape Coral, FL15/1/2014I just don't see it. 4 stars ??? This is one of the weakest Chardonnays I tasted in the last 20 years. It has no finess, no body and is totally overwhelmed by acidity. It's a lousy representative for the Carneros-area. The regular Kendall Jackson Vinters Reserve at half the price beats this disappointing wine by a landslide. I'm using the other 3 bottlesd as cooking wine !!! Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume.
