Winemaker's Notes:

From Artesa's "Prestige Tier". This Cabernet offers flavors of fresh ripe currant and cassis. Enveloped in dark chocolate, vanilla, cedar smoke, violets and clove, this is what Napa Valley is. These aromas entice you and the rich and supple mid-palate fills your mouth with soft velvety tannins. A perfect touch of drying cinnamon on the finish reminds you that this is the king of wines and will age gracefully for over a decade.

Our grape sources are from four vineyards in four distinct growing areas that span the Napa Valley: Atlas Peak, Howell Mountain, Lovall Valley, and Calistoga. They offer great diversity - from the high altitude intensity of our granite grown Atlas Peak vineyard to the red volcanic soils of Howell Mountain, to the gravelly soils of our warm Calistoga site, to the clay-loam soils of the cooler climate in Lovall Valley (a small elevated valley at the base of Mount Veeder between Napa and Sonoma). Our winemaker and viticulturalist visited each vineyard multiple times to monitor the critical interplay of vine and viticulture. Each block was picked under the direction of the winemaker to insure optimal ripeness and flavor.

About Artesa Vineyards and Winery:

Artesa's architecturally-acclaimed facility opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991, dedicated solely to méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. But in 1997, with the arrival of a world-class winemaker and a $10 million conversion, the winery shifted focus dramatically. Artesa was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999.

Artesa (ahr TESS uh) means "craftsman" and connotes "handcrafted" in Catalan, language of Barcelona and their owner, Codorníu, one of the world's largest and oldest wineries. The Codorníu Group actually consists of six spectacular wineries whose wines are enjoyed daily in over 100 countries around the globe. So, while Artesa is a relative newcomer to Napa, their heritage is rich. They share five centuries of history with 15 generations of a remarkable winemaking family.
