Solengo is a modern and well balanced wine. Its color is intense, deep ruby to purple. The nose is captivating, rich and dense, full of ripe fruits and sweet spicy aromas. The palate finds remarkable structure tempered by silky tannins. Concentrated aromas of berries and chocolate make the aftertaste last for minutes.
"Very ripe berry, coffee and meat aromas follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Tight and structured. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Best after 2011. 2,500 cases made."
"Argiano, based in Montalcino, has produced a superb Solengo in 2005. This French oak-aged blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 25% Syrah presents a lovely core of inner sweetness, with tons of complexity and distinctiveness. There is terrific energy and focus in its sweet dark fruit, smoke, licorice, and wild herbs, with well-integrated tannins and notable balance. This medium-bodied effort needs another year or two to come together, but it is already delicious. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
