It all began over 20 years ago when Thomas and Monika Bar first discovered the Gagliole estate in Chianti near Castellina. Dr. Bar, former chairman of one of Switzerland's largest and oldest private banks, had long dreamed of creating wines that would truly express the nobility of Chianti's unique terroir and the legacy of the Sangiovese grape. It would take more than a decade of negotiating and persistence before the Bars purchased the 1000 year-old farm. To produce world-class wines, the Bars hired one of Italy's most esteemed enologists, Dr. Stefano Chioccioli. Gagliole's IGT, a Sangiovese with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, is crafted entirely from the estate's 60-acre vineyards.
