Style: Smooth & Supple

Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep, vibrant purple in color with inky hues. Brooding ripe blackberry and liquorish flavors on the nose are complimented by spicy oak. The palate is rich with plums and berries balanced with integrated tannins. Great depth of flavor and silky structure show all the hallmarks of McLaren Vale Shiraz. This is a great wine now but will age gracefully for many years.

Critical Acclaim

"Dark crimson-purple; has a potent bouquet of black fruits and licorice, then a rich full-bodied palate adding a dash of dark chocolate to the blackberry base. A lot of wine for the price."
91 Points

"Ripe and generous on a medium-weight frame, offering blackberry and dried cherry flavors against polished tannins. Finishes with vivid flavors and a hint of coffee. Drink now through 2016. Smart Buy"

A friend gave me a bottle that we had for dinner tonight. We liked it so I looked it up and just ordered a half case for a really good house red. We are enjoying it as I write this!
