Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Good deep red color, complex aromas of red berries, black raspberries, dried flowers and pungent spices; smooth and soft, finishes with tannins and excellent persistence.

Critical Acclaim

"The 1998 Barolo Bussia Soprana exhibits moderately intense aromas of cedar, spice box, licorice, tar, and cherry jam. This full-bodied, powerful, concentrated 1998 possesses good acidity, excellent cleanliness, and a moderately tannic finish.
Range: 90-92"
92 Points

"Impressive aromas of ripe berries, plums and spices follow through to a medium to full body, firm tannins and a chewy finish. Rather tight on the palate. Needs plenty of bottle age."
