Critical Acclaim

"The opaque purple-colored 1999 Syrah Reva reveals notes of bacon fat, cassis, spicy oak, and an Hermitage-like character. It comes from the coolest section of the vineyard, and perhaps that's why it seems the most French-like."
90 Points

"Deep, saturated ruby-red. Expressive aromas of mulberry, black raspberry, spiced meat, gunflint, cardamom and smoke. Chewy and concentrated, with a saline impression of extract; hints at exotic spices. Sweeter and more pliant than the estate's '99 grenache, but still a rather reserved style of California syrah despite its density. Finishes with noteworthy power and persistence."

Learn About Alban

Alban Vineyards is the first America winery and vineyard established exclusively for Rhone varieties. Conceived at a time when there were virtually only two "flavors" of wine produced in the U.S., they set out to introduce wine grapes that would offer oenephiles a new world of possibilities. Pioneering Roussanne, Grenache Noir and Viognier to go along with meticulously selected clones of Syrah, Alban Vineyards has guided consumers and producers to the enormous potential of Rhone varietals in California.

The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
