Style: Earthy & Spicy

Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Winemaker's Notes

Bright purple. Dark berry and cherry aromas are complemented by anise, tobacco and a slow-mounting floral quality. Fleshy cherry and red currant flavours are fresh and nicely focused. Finishes on a vivid cherry note, with silky tannins and very good persistence.

Critical Acclaim

"Representing a superb value, the Alain Jaume 2012 Vacqueyras Grande Garrigue is a tank-aged blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. It exhibits gorgeous notes of black raspberry, ground herbs, violets and pepper, medium to full-bodied richness and an overall rich, layered personality. More than a little impressive, it should have a solid 7-8 years of longevity. Drink now-2020.

Learn About Vacqueyras

(vah-keh-rahs) Once just a Cotes-du-Rhone village, the wine of Vacqueyras made its mark and in 1990, gaining its own appellation. The wine is somewhat similar to its northern neighbor, Gigondas, and occasionally even more rustic. Vacqueyras wine gives off the flavors of the earth where the vines grow - wild herbs, spice and rocky soil. Notable Facts Like other Southern Rhone...

Popular in Spain (called Garnacha), Australia and the southern Rhone region of France, Grenache is the primary grape in regions such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel, and Priorat. It's often tamed by less fleshy, more structured grapes like Syrah...
