    Winemaker Notes

The A by Acacia California Chardonnay is lusciously ripe fruit expression of white peach, ripe pear, Golden Delicious apple, mango and papaya. On the silky palate, nuances of citrus blossoms and minerals meld with vanilla-spice notes from oak aging. We used barrel fermentation, partial malolactic fermentation and aging the wine on the yeast to enhance its opulent, mouth-coating texture, while naturally crisp acidity balances the wine with vibrancy. Chill and pour it just to sip with friends or to pair with favorite entrées.

Since 1979, Acacia Vineyard has been making world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines from the Carneros American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Napa Valley. They founded A by Acacia to expand our passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to other distinctive California wine regions including select spots in Sonoma County and along California’s Central Coast. They have also begun sourcing classic Rhône varieties—Syrah and Grenache—from the Central Coast and Lodi AVAs for their Rosé. Each of their wines displays expressive fruit, exceptional balance, and the characteristics of their unique growing regions.

California’s most praised white wine, Chardonnay is also the state’s most planted white grape variety. Diverse terrain and microclimates allow for an incredible range of wine styles.

Chardonnay planted in the cooler, coastal zones takes on bright characteristics like lemon zest, key lime, green apple and wet flint. For this style, look to the chilly Sonoma Coast, Carneros, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Lucia Highlands and Edna Valley.

The inland zones of California’s coast, such as the Russian River, Sonoma, Napa and Livermore Valleys maintain a more Goldilocks-esque climate where both styles go. Early picking retains acidity and creates a leaner style but leaving the grapes to hang creates an approachable Chardonnay, balancing richness and finesse.

Chardonnay also plays a major part in the sparkling wine production of the Anderson Valley and Carneros.
