Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Alcohol By Volume: 15.9%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Concentration, complexity and ripe tannins. Intense dried fruits, and secondary characters of spice and cedary oak. Well balanced and full bodied wine.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2005 3 Rings Shiraz was sourced from vineyards averaging 85 years of age and was raised for 36 months in French oak demi-muids. It is purple/black in color with a superb, brooding nose of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, smoked meat, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a full-bodied, layered, thick, rich Shiraz which will require a minimum of five years of further cellaring to begin unwinding. This full-throttle effort should offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2030."
92 Points

"Supple, fleshy and generous with its sweet blackberry, espresso and dark chocolate flavors, focused into a long and expressive finish. Drink now through 2017. 500 cases made."

I'm always a little skeptical of wines with a twist off cap but this is a great wine. Had it with a London broil and it paired up very nicely. Afterwards I finished it off with a Cain Nub 464 cigar and it was a perfect match!! It was buttery smooth with a great fruity nose. I'm ordering more as soon as I'm done with this review!!

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz
