Winemaker Notes

With a bright yellow color and delicate floral aromas of white fruit, this Premium Torrontés excites the senses due to its freshness and liveliness. This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled fish, fresh shellfish and focaccia topped with tapenade.

The 2013 Alta Vista Premium Torrontes from Cafayate, Salta, was harvested in three different stages, mid-March, end of March and until mid-April, to combine freshness, maturity, aromas and complexity, which resulted in more subtle aromas, more flowers (jasmine) and less tropical notes (less lychee). It has a concentrated and powerful palate that is more complex and ripe, very dry, with good weight of fruit, and vibrant. For comparisons’ sake Philippe uncorked the last bottle of the first vintage for this wine, the 2002, and unfortunately the bottle was off but it would have been really interesting to see how the wine ages. This is very drinkable, but should also last. A complex and food-oriented Torrontes, at an unbeatable price. Drink now-2017.

Alta Vista Winery Video
Founded in 1997 and owned by the d'Aulan family, former owners of the Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house, Alta Vista is guided by the philosophy of expressing the best terroirs of Argentina and highlighting the typical Argentine varieties: Malbec and Torrontes. The winemaking team's system of terroir management led Alta Vista to produce the very first single-vineyard Malbecs in Argentina. Alta Vista has gained the respect of other wine professionals both in Argentina and in other wine-producing countries on the basis of the quality of its wines, which have been internationally classified as being among Argentina's finest.

Unapologetically fun and distinctively fragrant, Torrontés is regarded as the signature white grape of Argentina. In many ways it bears a striking resemblance to Muscat (and in fact is an offspring of Muscat of Alexandria). Sommelier Secret—If you’re in search of a new summer sipper, look no further than Torrontés. These wines are always inexpensive, delightfully refreshing and are best enjoyed in the sunny outdoors at a picnic, poolside or on the porch.

Home to some of Argentina’s best Torrontes, the Cafayate Valley’s rugged, high-altitude vineyards are part of the Calchaquies Valley in northwestern Argentina. Here, this Argentine white variety is able to achieve optimal ripeness while maintaining a higher than average acidity; its wines are typically full-bodied, dry to off-dry and alluringly aromatic.

In the Cafayate Valley, summers are warm and while most rainfall happens in these months, it isn’t enough to supply to the vineyards with enough water for the entire year. Snowmelt provides a fresh water source for irrigation in these arid and extreme conditionss.
