The nose is phenomenal in this wine. It makes my head spin with so much beautiful perfumes of violets, lavender, sandalwood, mineral, dried fruits, figs. Full body, with phenomenal depth of fruit that gives layers of structure and richness. I am amazed. This is a wine to try in 2020 but so impressive now. This is the Harlan of Argentina but from malbec instead of cabernet sauvignon. 500 cases made. This is as good as it gets for Malbec.

This inky red is slow to open, with fine tannins wrapping around a plush core of blueberry paste, linzer torte and cassis fruit. Needs time in the cellar, but the dark, graphite-laced finish shows potential. Best from 2016 through 2022.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard is pure Malbec sourced from the oldest ungrafted vines from the Marchiori vineyard in Perdriel (Lujan de Cuyo) which are over 80 years old, handpicked on April 27 and matured in new Taransaud French oak for 18 months. They have always used the same 2.2 hectares from the same plot for this single vineyard (in fact single plot) wine, where the bunches and grapes are smaller than the typical Malbec bunches, and the wine displays a powerful nose of black ripe, jammy fruit with notes of exotic woods, dark chocolate and peat. The dense palate is full-bodied with round, sweet tannins, and plenty of fruit, alcohol and acidity. A big, concentrated Malbec. I find more freshness and balance in the Marchiori Bramare.

Wine
Viña Cobos makes wines that are authentic expressions of the terroir from which they come. Paul Hobbs, founding partner and winemaker at Viña Cobos, has worked since 1988 in the exploration of the different terroirs of Mendoza, looking for the most distinguished regions in Luján de Cuyo and the Valle de Uco, to produce wines that uniquely express their origins.
Sustainable farming methods in the vineyard contribute to consistent yields of healthy fruit. In the winery, careful treatment of the grapes and meticulous winemaking techniques result in complex and elegant wines of subtlety and balance.
With the inaugural vintage of Cobos Malbec in 1999, Viña Cobos marked a milestone in viticulture, defying existing standards and firmly positioned Malbec and Argentina on the international wine scene. Since then, our prestigious wines have been recognized around the globe by critics and consumers alike.
Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
