Winemaker Notes

When first tested, the results indicated the soil had excellent levels of nutrients for vineyard growth. the potassium, magnesium and calcium were also superbly in balance. So in 1997, we planted 110R rootstock and later budded 337 clone. Treva's vineyard is a steep, rocky stie with red volcanic soils and excellent drainage. The southeastern exposure provides full sun without intense heat. It produces a small yield of tiny dark blue to black berries maturing near the end of September.

A powerful mix of dried berry, tobacco leaf, currant and crushed rock, this combines richness with intensity, ending with chewy tannins. Begs for cellaring.

Heritage School Vineyards, California
Heritage School Vineyards (formerly Harris Estate Vineyards) are a small producer of premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Calistoga AVA. They have three estate-grown vineyards planted in the diverse terrain of their 48-acre property. The wines from these vineyards are crafted by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and perfectly reflect the terroir of the Franz Valley area. Once a private boys school, the sprawling property offers a glimpse into the hard work and dedication we have put forth into Heritage School Vineyards. The vineyards and wine have become a true way of living for the owners that Harris Estate Vineyards hopes to share with you.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
