Winemaker Notes

Berries, violets, allspice and freshly baked pastry unite in an offering reminiscent of berry pie. The aromatic potpourri prominently features bright cherry flavors and sandalwood-tinged cocoa spice. Handsomely sculptured tannins showcase the mouthwatering fruit compote in the long, lingering finish.

Blend: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, 11% Merlot, 7% Petite Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc

This takes a fresh approach to classical Napa Valley cabernet, a sleek, cool and delicious red, layering scents of violets, berries and oak. There’s a resonant complexity to its depth of flavor, a full-on ripeness with no hint of raisining. Mike McGrath blends this from a wide range of vineyard sources throughout Napa Valley, including Stagecoach on Atlas Peak, Truchard in Carneros and Frediani in Calistoga. The wine is mainly cabernet sauvignon (66 percent), along with malbec, merlot and smaller amounts of petite verdot and franc, the combination supple and very easy to drink.

Deliciously rich and yummy, this is a softly tannic Bordeaux blend to drink now. It shows broad, deep blackberry, blueberry and chocolate flavors, with a jacket of sweet-tasting, caramelized oak.

Conn Creek is a boutique winery on the Silverado Trail in the Rutherford district. For 40 years, the winery has focused on Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-styled wines. In search of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, we've discovered many exceptional single-vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley.

Today, Conn Creek sources fruit from prized vineyards in nearly all of Napa Valley's 15 renowned sub-appellations to provide winemaker Mike McGrath with an unparalleled palette from which to blend each wine. It's an approach that captures the "Best of Napa Valley."

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
