Winemaker Notes
Justification exhibits the deep, ruby color of its predecessors. The nose possesses complex scents of pencil shavings and bittersweet chocolate. Fruit aromas range from dark black cherry to touches of bright cranberry. The mouth is medium to full body, with flavors closely echoing the aromas found in the nose. Overall, this wine is tightly wound at the present and will benefit from at least 4 to 7 years additional aging. Remember, this wine is unfiltered, so carefully decant any bottles cellared for several years.
Professional Ratings

Wine Enthusiast
This Cab Franc and Merlot blend is elegant and refined. Notable for the subtle interplay of dried earth, blueberry and oak flavors with the rich tannins. It’s a wine of enormous charm and finesse. Bone dry, and packing a long, fruity finish.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
An unfiltered blend of 76% Cabernet Franc and 24% Merlot, the impressive 2002 Justification reveals a saturated ruby/purple color along with a knock-out nose of blueberries and currants. This fleshy, expansive, medium to full-bodied effort is very light on its feet with nicely integrated tannin, wood, and acidity. A high class, subtle, but authoritatively rich red, it is good to see Cabernet Franc doing this well in the Paso Robles area.
-
Wine Spectator
Stylish in its presentation and range of flavors, with firm, fleshy currant, black cherry, plum and wild berry tones. Picks up momentum and reveals extra dimensions of depth and complexity on the long, satisfying finish. Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Justin and Deborah Baldwin acquired their land in 1981 and planted 72 acres in vineyards that same year. Initially they were wine growers, selling to other wineries. Then, in 1987, they harvested their first grapes bottled under the Justin label. Justin Winery concentrates on two Bordeaux styled red wines: Isoscleles, which is a 100% estate blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and Justification, a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Varietals are planted to specific soil types on their hillside vineyards 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, on the Central Coast.
