Winemaker Notes
Produced since 1986. Just shy of 1800 feet in elevation, in a small bowl on the western edge of the Mayacama mountains lies the original Kistler planting. Thirty year old vines grow dry farmed in deep red volcanic ash, producing a wine with an intense sense of the mountain heritage of the delicate stone fruit that is lifted, like its McCrea cousin, yet firmer, and with a stronger core and added layers of richness.
Professional Ratings

Wine Spectator
Wonderful focus on ripe, structured pear, pineapple and earthy citrus flavors, which unfold gracefully to reveal subtle flavor and textural nuances. Oak plays a small role, giving the wine a flash of smoke and toast. Lovely aftertaste.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The tightly-knit 2000 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard (1,800 cases) is reminiscent of a grand cru Puligny-Montrachet. Lemony honeyed grapefruit, orange rind, and buttered citrus aromas are accompanied by subtle notions of liquid stones, roasted almonds, and a long, medium to full-bodied finish with refreshing levels of acidity. As with all of the Kistler Chardonnays, it is elegant, restrained, nuanced, yet intensely flavorful.
