Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Certified Organic, Amalinda features an elegant hue of cherry red color. On the nose, ripe red fruit with light hints of roasted and spicy notes. In the mouth it is round and balanced, with very good persistence and finish.

A great pairing with all types of meats, semi-firm cheeses, stews, spicy dishes. 100% Monastrell

A round, creamy-textured red with blackberry, dark-walnut and some chocolate character. It’s medium-bodied with a fresh, clean finish.

Amalinda, Spain
Bodegas Bellavista was founded 153 years ago in 1870 in Jumilla Spain, this was the first commercial winery in the region. Today, the winery embraces new winemaking techniques but following the same tradition and identity of their past. The estate continues its growth, adapting to new quality certifications and consumer demands. The winery is committed to the research and development of new winemaking techniques and is committed to protecting the environment. The winery focuses on the indigenous variety Monastrell, which finds its habitat in this area, meeting three fundamental requirements: combination of grape variety, soil composition and climate. This contributes to the grape developing its maximum color and flavor characteristics, which is synonymous with quality. Their philosophy and identity is to maintain the tradition, from the care and control in the vineyard in a sustainable way, doing carefully all the works and processes in the winery in a natural way until the final bottling of the wines.

Full of ripe fruit, and robust, earthy goodness, Mourvèdre is actually of Spanish provenance, where it still goes by the name Monastrell or Mataro. It is better associated however, with the Red Blends of the Rhône, namely Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Mourvèdre shines on its own in Bandol and is popular both as a single varietal wine in blends in the New World regions of Australia, California and Washington. Somm Secret—While Mourvèdre has been in California for many years, it didn’t gain momentum until the 1980s when a group of California winemakers inspired by the wines of the Rhône Valley finally began to renew a focus on it.

Famous for the robust and earthy, black-fruit dominated, Monastrell (known as Mourvedre in France), Jumilla is an arid and hot region in southeastern Spain. Its vine yields tend to be torturously low but this can create wines of exceptional intensity and flavor. Quality combined with accessible price points give the region great recognition on international markets far and wide.

The reds from Jumilla are heady and spicy, packed with fruit and show aromas of dried licorice and herbs. If you like Syrah, Grenache or Pinot noir, a red wine from Jumilla would be a perfect next choice!
