winemaker's notes:

The nose is chock-full of fresh blackberries, cherries and dark chocolate sprinkled with spices. The palate is fresh and juicy, ripe red fruits mix with plums, blackcurrant, flowers and a twist of black pepper. The tannins are fine with d'Arenberg's trademark earthiness helping keep this easy going wine in check.

alcohol by volume: 14.5%
critical acclaim:

"Opaque purple. High-pitched aromas of boysenberry, blueberry and violet. A juicy, velvet-textured fruit bomb, with jammy dark berry flavors enlivened by a hint of white pepper. Not the last word in complexity but offers a load of expressive black and blue fruit, finishing with ripe, smooth tannins and good length. "

International Wine Cellar

"Medium red-purple; there has been no attempt to make a wine of finesse or elegance; rather, it has been a successful attempt to extract every last drop of vinous blood and (to a lesser degree) tannins. Excellent bbq red, well priced."

rating (2/6/2013):

Ordered this low priced wine because of it's Australian Wine Companion rating of 88. What a disappointment! It not only had a metallic taste, but lacked that fruity, bold suppleness you would expect from a Shiraz. The rating should have been an eight point eight (8.8) and not an 88.

Little disappointed in this vintage. I was a big fan of the 2008 vintage, this one not so much.

rating (9/21/2011):
For the price this is a great table wine. Pairs well with most meals, probably not the bottle I am going to open if we are having a big steak, but is a very nice easy to drink. Have bought it a few times, it is catching on, the price keeps going up.
