Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Amarone, the small jewel in our product line, is rightly considered the king of Verona's wines, produced from the best grapes of the Valpolicella Classic area, carefully selected and dried in trays until January. Showing deep ruby red, it releases intense aromas laden with rich spice and dried fruit; in the mouth it is a wine of superb richness and majestic flavors.

The perfect wine for all roasts and game, as well as for aged cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico boasts fabulous intensity and richness. This is an especially heady, port-like Amarone imbued with tons of depth. Chocolate, black cherries, leather and spices wrap around the serious, palate-staining finish. The 2007 needs quite a bit of time, but it is hugely promising. Readers who appreciate a big, powerful style of Amarone will love Zenato’s 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. "
94 Points

"Light tannins add subtle grip to this supple Amarone, framing flavors of sticky, sun-dried date, black cherry, and crushed black raspberry, with aromatic hints of sweet smoke, loose tea leaf and lots of ground spice. The finish is long and refined. Drink now through 2030. 1,250 cases imported."
93 Points

"Full, gorgeous and bright, this shows restraint and elegance, with lovely aromas of sweet cherry, blackberry pie, leather, tar and black licorice. In keeping with Valpolicella tradition, there is a touch of sweetness on the palate, but the quality of the fruit is clean and polished. Cellar Selection"
