I would buy this wine again

Yalumba is one of the best wineries in South Australia, so I expected something special. I must say that it delivered spot on. This Viognier has an apricot, pear and watermellon nose. It also has a nice straw hue to it. The taste is definately complex with hints of white pepper and tart citrus on the back. I'm not convinced this wine was fermented in stainless steel. Typically, Viognier in the Barossa region does have a touch of oak. You do get some of the creeping 'lees' taste, but there is nothing overpowering about it. I loved it and would recommend it for its great taste and price.

  Viognier and oak? - 4/23/2008
I would not buy this wine again

I often like viognier but not this time. I tend to like Sauvignon Blanc and other refreshing, low oak whites. At first I thought this wine was oaked but it isn't. Maybe what I tasted (a sort of creamy, lychee nut flavor) was the result of the winemaker leaving this wine on the lees for a few months (see winemaker notes). This may appeal to those of you who like oaked chardonnay.

A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.

Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
