The 2009 vintage was an excellent year for red wines in South Australia. Good rainfall was recorded during July and August 2008, proving invaluable as the following spring and early summer were extremely dry. A good rainfall in December was critical for the survival of the vineyards during the heat of late January and early February. The Shiraz vines weathered the heat well and were able to ripen in ideal conditions throughout February and March.
A deep crimson with violet hues, the Yalumba Y Series Shiraz Viognier 2009 has an exotic nose with crushed raspberries, violets and Turkish delight, complemented by cinnamon, tea smoke and nuances of allspice. Succulent and layered, the palate has flavours of raspberries and violets. Cocoa powder tannins balance the juiciness of the palate and enhance the lingering finish.
"A lovely lilting mouthful of blackberry and floral flavors persist easily into the long, refined finish. A smooth and vibrant wine. Drink now through 2015. "

"Voignier adds an otherwordly floral peach characer to this shiraz, bright with red-, blue- and green-skinned fruit. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's sleek and delicious in any case. And it's a steal at the price. "
