Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

"One of my favorite blends to craft and this vintage offers up one of our most complex wines of 2011," says director of Winemaking Bob Cabral. The cool long growing season produced a dark and rich wine with a bouquet of wild blackberry cobbler, Black cherries, anise, honeysuckle blossom and toasty oak. The heavily textural palate is layered with flavors of wild berries, cherry cola, cassis, black truffle, cardamom and roasted vanilla beans. Assembled from the best growers along Westside Road – Allen, Bacigalupi, Bucher, Flax, Rochioli Riverblock and the Williams Selyem Estate vineyards.

Critical Acclaim

"Deep ruby. Powerful, seductively perfumed aromas of red and dark berry preserves, Asian spices and potpourri, with cola and vanilla nuances adding complexity. Stains the palate with vibrant black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors and picks up a smoky nuance with air. Shows impressive vivacity on the finish, which features silky tannins and a touch of candied rose."
93 Points

"Bob Cabral blends this using ffruit from Williams Selyem's estate and neighboring vineyards along Westside Road, including Allen, Bacigalupi, Bucher and Rochioli Riverblock. It's a rich Russian river Style, juicy and satin-textured, while the wine's firm tannins keep it savory and hold it to a crisp line. It's full enough to serve with braised lamb shoulder. "

In less than two decades, Burt and Ed created a cult-status winery of international acclaim. Together they set a new standard for Pinot Noir winemaking...

The Russian River is agricultural land. While there is a focus on wine, beyond the vineyards are many small, family-owned farms cultivating everything from cattle to...

Learn About Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir(PEE-noh nwahr) Pinot Noir is a finicky grape. It only grows in the right climate, with the right soils and the right care. Perhaps because it is so difficult is why it is so loved. Pinot Noir hails from Burgundy, a region known for crafting the most collectible and sought-after wines from this varietal. Not only does Pinot reign in Burgundy, it is also...
