winemaker's notes:
The 2004 Riva Ranch Chardonnay is an exceptional
balance between the characters of the fruit, the sur lie barrel ageing, and the malolactic fermentation. As usual, the fruit component of our Arroyo Seco Chardonnay is tropical in nature, with bright green apple aromas surrounded by hints of vanillas, graham, and toast from the barrels. Rounding out this wine is the subtle level of butter from the
malolactic fermentation, providing a full mouth feel and smooth finish.

i'm drinking some right now, and i agree w/ the winemaker that the balance is exceptional. not too oaky, but oak is there, w/ a light buttery quality that isn't overwhelming like some cal chards... great quality for the price. i am more of a red wine drinker, but this chard passes the depth test.

we have been three times to the wente tasting room and blindly tried all flights and this continues to be my absolute favorite! This wine leaves a flavor in your mouth that is smooth and oaky with a little zest to it, it becomes addictive, I actually crave this wine =)

I just tried this wine at a local bar/restaurant. It is the exact Chardonnay flavor I have been searching for! I love the oak, butter, and vanilla combination as well as the smooth finish. Thank you!
