Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A brilliant, pale, almost transparent yellow with greenish hues. Very elegant, this Sauvignon Blanc stands out for its freshness and intensity, marked especially be citrus fruits like grapefruit, white asparagus, sweet peas, mineral notes and a hint of chili pepper. This wine is fresh, fruity, with amazing body, mineral, with strong acidity and a long finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Marked by powerful acidity—typical of the cool ’13 season—this is a sauvignon that will refresh on a summer day, alongside a cool, citrusy ceviche. The wine’s nerve also will sustain it as it gains complexity over several years in bottle. This grows at Las Gaviotas, a vineyard in Leyda with a view out to the sea. "
92 Points

"A mouthwatering style, with fresh, vibrant flavors of lime, grass and mineral that lengthen midpalate, leading to a finish of cream and spice. An engaging style, very refreshing and fruity, offering hints of richness."
