Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The huge bouquet of cassis, herbs, and new oak is followed by a wine that is medium-bodied, with deep, black-cherry flavors wrapped intelligently in toasty oak. Extracted, deep, yet impeccably balanced.

Critical Acclaim

"One of my favorite wines from this chateau, as well as from a vintage that remains somewhat underrated. Sweet black fruits intermixed with earth, charcoal, licorice, and compost jump from the glass of this medium-bodied, deep, beautifully extracted Pomerol that has a real Médoc structure to it. The wine is sweet, relatively evolved, and just beginning to enter its plateau of full maturity. Anticipated maturity: now-2015."

Learn About Vieux Chateau Certan Map ItMap It

Vieux Chateau Certan is the oldest growth in the parish of Pomerol. Its origins date back to the beginning of the 16th century when the Demay family, originally from Scotland, came to liveo n the property. The local vicinity takes its name from this old chateau. In 1858, the property was purchased by Charles Bousquet who built the buildings that stand to this day. In 1924, Georges Thienpont, a wine shipper from Etikhove in Belgium, bought the chateau that, since 1957, has been run by a company formed by the Thienpont heirs.

The area is all vines, with no real town...
