Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep garnet red in color. Richly rounded with a robust and velvety texture; intensely aromatic with hints of figs and plums. Elegant with soft and sweet tannins, followed by a long finish.

Pair with game, red meats and aged cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"Good full red. Pure, high-pitched nose offers minerals, brown spices, Cuban tobacco and menthol. Powerful and deep, with strong minerality giving energy and sap to the wine. Perhaps best today on the sweet, lush back end, where the wine's minerality contributes to a rising, wonderfully long and fresh aftertaste. "
95 Points

"The 2004 Barolo Lazzarito, from a vineyard in Serralunga, possesses superb depth in its ripe dark fruit, smoke, licorice, tar and sweet toasted oak. It too is a massive, powerful Barolo and the Serralunga terroir adds an extra dimension to the wine’s brooding personality. Even though new oak has been reduced to 30%, the Lazzarito remains the estate’s most modern Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. "

Patriarch Mario Vietti, starting from 1919 made the first Vietti wines, selling most of the production in Italy. His most significant achievement was to transform the family farm,...

Being close to the alps, the area enjoys a high altitude, with the best vineyards benefiting from the hills and elevation. Known for its famous sub-districts, Piedmont delivers some of the most...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
