Winemaker's Notes

A blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc.

Our 2005 Twomey Merlot is a voluptuous, robust and balanced expression of this noble variety. It has a deep garnet color and an intensely concentrated nose of black cherry, blackberry essence, wild game and freshly ground black pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, wtih fine-grained tannins and an extremely long finish.

This Merlot will continue to give drinking pleasure through 2018.

Critical Acclaim

"Bright, deep red-ruby. Red berries, tobacco, pine resin and a whiff of herbs on the nose. Suave, young and dry, with a slightly tart quality to the flavors of plum, redcurrant and tobacco. There's a light greenness here but also a subtle smoky sweetness. Finishes fresh and firm, with a fine dusting of tannins. This has been a consistently intriguing and understated merlot in recent vintages."

Very disappointing Merlot. Very nondescript. Some classic red fruit, plum on the nose, but lightweight! Light bodied (which was surprising), no structure & not terribly complex; Also, not well balanced..I've had Pinots with more body than this Merlot. Pleasant, but a bit grapey on the palate. Flimsy tannins. Finish left alot to be desired. Overall, extremely disappointed...will not buy again. This is relatively expensive and definitely NOT a good value for the money!

of all the vintages of this grower i belief this is their best. Solid elegant wine that would make a great collection.

Planted with the finest French clones in well-drained volcanic soils, the Merlot that is grown there possesses such extraordinary complexity that it calls for a wine of its own. Silver Oak's winemaker,...

Learn About Napa Valley

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Learn About Merlot

Merlot(mehr-LOW) No second fiddle Merlot is coming back into its own. High popularity led to mass production, which then led to a backlash towards the variety (remember Miles in Sideways?). But passionate Merlot producers, and of course the right bank of Bordeaux, continued to produce quality versions of this grape. Merlot remains the principle grape of top chateaux in St...
