Two Hands Ares Shiraz 2009
Syrah/Shiraz from Barossa Valley, Australia
ratings pedigree (past vintages):
winemaker's notes:
Deep red and black with magenta rim. The aromas are bright and intense, with volumes of rich berries, plums and maraschino cherries. The aromas are continually evolving, also bringing cedary spice, subtle lavender, bitter chocolate, tar and fudge. Currently very tight and restrained. 2009 brought wines of great flavour with elements of finesse and the 2009 Ares is no exception. Juicy plums and blueberries dominate early to mid-palate, then underlying cedary chocolate notes emerge carrying the wine through to the late palate, tightening up again to a focused core of fruit, spice and tannin.
critical acclaim:
"Supple, subtle and succulent, delivering an open-textured mouthful of rich red berry, black cherry, black tea and dusky spice character. Finishes with great clarity and transparency. Shiraz. Drink now through 2020."

Wine Spectator
"Deep purple-black colored, the 2009 Ares Shiraz is intensely scented of warm black plums, black cherry compote, dried mulberries and blackberry tart with underlying notes of cedar, licorice, hung meat and fertile soil. Full bodied, densely packed and generously layered with ripe berry flavors, it has a good backbone of medium to firm velvety tannins and racy acid, finishing long. Drink it 2014 to 2024+."

The Wine Advocate
"Glass-staining purple. Sexy aromas of cassis, candied licorice, cracked pepper and smoky, vanillin oak, along with notes of allspice and violet. Sweet, sappy and penetrating, offering intense dark berry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that gain weight and spiciness with air. Dense but seamless and energetic, finishing with superb clarity and thrust."
