winemaker's notes:

Deep purple with a black core. The bouquet shows concentrated aromas of plums, scorched earth, licorice, mint, and chocolate whilst exhibiting trademark McLaren Vale characters of coffee and mocha. The mouth feel and texture is immediate with concentrated flavors of cola, plum and blackcurrant along a vibrant and linear backbone. The mid palate shows terrific focus, the finish balanced by impeccable tannin and acid structure.

critical acclaim:

"
#83 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2008

Big, bold and expressive, with some unexpected transparency to the black cherry, raspberry, red plum and Asian spice aromas and flavors, lingering on the open-textured finish. The aftertaste just keeps coming. Drink now through 2015."

Wine Spectator

"Vivid ruby. Red berries, cherry, fresh rose and smoky bacon on the varietally expressive nose. Vibrant raspberry and blackcurrant flavors are concentrated, clean and brisk, boasting impressive juicy lift. I can't find any tannins. The zesty red berry notes carry through on the sharply focused finish. "

  Wish for a real cork - 7/28/2009
I would buy this wine again
Smooth, concentrated fruit flavor that lingers on and on.... but I had some problems with the twist screw top - on a couple of bottles I found the wine to be spoiled due to the cap not being properly closed. I don't know if this is due to wine.com handling or producer, but it makes me wish for a real cork.

Kosher wine
Kosher
A Kosher wine begins like every other - as grapes on a vine. Once they reach the winery for crushing, the wine is under strict rabbinal supervision.
Screw Cap wine
Screw Cap
Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
Green wine
Green Wines
Wines that use sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic practices in the vineyard and/or winemaking process. We rely on a number of U.S. and International certifications to qualify wines "green."
Collectible wine
Collectible
These wines will improve from additional bottle age, when properly stored, and may show the greatest potential to increase in value.
Great Wine Gifts
Great Wine Gifts
These selected wines make impressionable gifts for wine enthusiasts and oenophiles alike.
Boutique Wines
Boutique Wines
These wines are made in limited quantities and are typically produced from single vineyard sources or made by small, artisanal wineries. While the winery may produce larger quantities, we limit wines with this designation to a 1,000 case production.
