Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Critical Acclaim

"Year in and year out one of Turley's superstars is the Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard. The 1999 is a tour de force in Zinfandel winemaking. The alcohol is totally concealed behind a wealth of glycerin, fruit, layered extraction, and a rich, plush texture. The wine possesses an opaque purple color, marvelous purity, and a minerality that frames its extravagant blackberry, cherry, and currant-dominated richness. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. An astounding effort, it will age well for a decade."
96 Points

"Bright deep ruby. Vibrant but reticent nose hints at raspberry syrup. Fat, lush and sweet, with explosively spicy flavors of black cherry, cassis and bitter chocolate. This has wonderful creamy sweetness at its core. Finishes with chewy tannins and great persistence.
Range: 94-96"
