The final blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc. This wine is very approachable right now, but will improve and become more complex over the next 10 years. It has rich aromas of plum, red currant, and floral blueberry; with notes of vanilla, cedar, and mint. The mouth is smooth and rich; layered with ripe cherry, raspberry and plum jam. Dusty tannins lift the palate and provide a lingering finish of red fruit and spice.
Truchard Vineyards is a family-owned and operated winery in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley. Varietals produced are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Syrah. In 1974, the Truchards began planting their own vineyards, which now number 270 acres.
Technically a part of Napa Valley, the Carneros region straddles both Sonoma & Napa counties. It's the Napa region closest to the San Francisco peninsula and the San Pablo Bay, which is instrumental in controlling the climate of the area. The winds from the San Pablo bay create a cool weather pattern ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
