Winemaker's Notes

Travaglini Gattinara is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes, grown on the family estate. Nebbiolo grapes have been grown in the Piedmont region for centuries. This varietal takes its name from the morning fog, "nebbia" which fills the valleys of teh area during harvest. Nebbiolo, the outstanding red wine grape of Italy, is deep in color, robust and full-bodied, with rich, deep, complex flavors.

1997 was a monumental year in Italy, and this wine displays the perfect growing conditions. The fruit is filled with violets, vanilla, mocha, and berry flavors. Travaglini fashioned their Gattinara with a perfect balance of fruit and tannin, highlighting the classic flavors of the Nebbiolo grape.

The family's passion for winemaking has not diminished through the...

Being close to the alps, the area enjoys a high altitude, with the best vineyards benefiting from the hills and elevation. Known for its famous sub-districts, Piedmont delivers some of the most...

It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
