Item No. 105748
ratings pedigree (past vintages):
red wine style:
Light & Fruity Smooth & Supple Earthy & Spicy Big & Bold
winemaker's notes:

The 2009 Tilia Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark purple color with ruby red tones. The nose is full of ripe red fruits, sweet spice and a touch of tobacco. The mouthfeel shows red currant and cassis fruit layered with notes of cedar and espresso bean. The finish is soft and sweet, with finely grained tannins adding structure and length.

alcohol by volume: 13.9%
critical acclaim:

"Lightly floral and decidedly fruity, this is rich in cherry flavors that give it a fresh, clean air. A selection from organically farmed vineyards in Mendoza, the fruit is pure and direct, with enough tannin for an Argentine asado."

User Reviews

rating (1/19/2011):

I was impressed with the smoothness, and great quality of this Cab, and the price is unbeatable. I usually spend double the price for my everyday Cabs, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to compromise flavor at this price point.
rating (2/14/2011):
Was not as heavy as we usually like our Cabs to be. We like our Cabs almost opaque, this was too light. The taste had nothing horribly wrong. It was very simple and to me it tasted more like a cheaper Pinot or Malbec. Sweeter than a cab should be. I liked it but know many better wines in this price range. I don't need to buy it again for a few years but would if i found myself with in a store with limited selection. I also would buy again just because of the sustainability practices. I have to give them some points there! Good wine to introduce white wine drinkers or beginner wine drinkers to red.

Gave it a go, regretted it. Ew.
rating (1/17/2011):
Disappointed to say, this wine was one of the worst cabs I've ever tasted. Definitely not what I was expecting for a 90 point wine. I was excited because it is also labeled as a "green" wine, but my hopes were shattered after the first sip. It lacks body and is very acidic; not very structured, especially for a cab. I prefer jammy, full-bodied reds, and this did unfortunately did not foot the bill. I don't even mind earthy, woody wines, but this one was not balanced at all, in my opinion.
rating (1/5/2011):
After being open for an hour it has a nice aroma of berry fruit with just a hint of vegetal. The taste starts with fruit then has that South American earthy flavor. Finish is dry and medium length
rating (12/9/2010):
The only thing this wine maker got right was the color. this wine smells like a pair of jim shoes and dosen't tase much better
rating (9/17/2011):
I was looking for the malbec on wine.com but was surprised not to find it. I have not had the Tilia cab yet, but I found the malbec to be quite lively. For $8.69 this is a great wine. Lots of black fruit on the nose. Rounded with cigar and licorice. This is a big and bold wine to the taste. Mirrored black fruit with bright young tannin. At this price a great value!
rating (4/14/2011):
This is one worth stocking up on. Great to have on hand for impromptu dinner guests, watching TV on a Tuesday night, or an afternoon in the park. This isn't a big bold Cab, but for under 9 bucks with a 91 rating, it's pretty awesome. Plus it's green so you can feel good about drinking it.

This is an excellent Cabernet at any price. At this price it is a bargain, great Cabernet flavor, good body, just the right amount of tannin. This is one of the best of the viniferas.

I'm no expert, just know what I like... and I really like this Cab - good price, too.

rating (12/20/2010):
During dinner the wine's initial mouth feel was like water: very weak. At the end, a somewhat bitter aftertaste. Next day my wife decided to use the leftover wine for cooking. Actually tasted better the day after. Maybe it needed a day to breathe.
Smith2010 - Fairfax, VA (read all my reviews)
rating (12/8/2010):
I agree that this is not a bad wine. It isn't very bold (which I like) and has a nice smooth taste. And personally, I like screw cap tops. They are becoming more and more popular now a days and don't necessarily signify a bad cheap wine.
rating (12/8/2010):
I bought this because I didn't notice it was a screw-cap. They might as well have used a poured concrete cork because this bottle of wine shouldn't be opened, ever.
rating (12/1/2010):
I would not by this wine again. Not sure how it got such a high rating

What a fantastic wine this was for the price! It def deserves the 91 rating! I usually am hesitant when buying cheaper wines. But this one surprised me. Gotta try it at least once if you dont like spending too much.

not impressed, a bit raw, perhaps needs another 2-3 years to mature.

I have bought over 25 bottles of Tilia - true story (update - 95 - do I have a problem?). Read more about the wine and winery if you can - great story and a great product. Goes down easy and great for biking around town with a bottle in your water bottle holder (a patented @screwcapco trick)

For the price, people are missing out on this great tasting wine from the Argentin region. One of my favs. Smooth, light, with a soft finish.

rating (6/27/2011):
I'd call it a decent table wine, not an everyday or special occasion wine. Not really deep or full-bodied, but smooth and I get some ceder hints. Not a show stopper, or wower, but a decent wine nonetheless.

91 points it is not. After airing for about 5 mins, the first sip was really astringent and out of balance. It had improved some the next day (when I finished the second half of the bottle), but even then it drank like an $8 bottle. I wanna give it 1.5 stars as I'd drink it again if I had to. For perspective, I'm a relative newbie who knows his beer and scotch and is currently living in the $9-$15 per bottle range.

This was a surprisingly good wine at that price. Smooth, thick, bold, flavorful and a bit thingy. Goes down very well and taste was long lasting. No bitternest as with wine in this price range. Worth a whole lot more.

I rate it a 4 star mainly for the price to value ratio. It really does have to be decanted and sit for an hour or two for the best flavor to come out. I didn't care for it right out of the bottle after openng. It was pinched and tight and lacked the full panoply of flavor I look for in a good Cabernet. After leaving it for two hours it was much fuller and smooth with just the right tannins.

For the price this is a WINNER. You can pour this for guests and they would never guess this was sub $30 bottle. Only downfall, it is a screw top.

I saw the rating and the price and thought I have to give this wine a try. A 91 pointer for $9? Are you kidding me? I ordered one bottle to sastisfy my curiousity and it would be a case if we liked it enough. I am glad I ordered only one. Niether my wife or I liked this wine at all and we approached with an open mind even wanting it to suprise us. Let's just say it tasted closer to $ 8.99 than it did 91 points. We each had a glass and agreed it tasted like it was $8.99 and not to order it again. Interestingly later that evening(several hours later) I poured another glass just to have with a snack and give it one more chance and it did taste better. This wine may need to decant much longer to do it justice.

In my own experience "wine & spirits" it is just as reference. I never take my buying decitions because them. Anyways I try Tilia cab. and its just Ok good price but NEVER 91 pts
rating (2/24/2011):

I don't know if this is a legit 91 rated cab.... but you can sure pay a lot more for a lot less. This is not a big, round California-style cabernet, but it still fairly full on the palate with good fruit. Thin but clean on the back end. It holds up well with grilled meat. At the price, you can't beat it. It's our new "house red."
rating (2/21/2011):
An extremely solid cabernet that is very pleasant to drink. Has a wonderfully smooth quality. Hints of bing cherry and spice complement this very tasty wine. Exceptional value for 8.99. My love for wines from South America has not been diminished...

Nice, drinkable, decent finish. Good wine for this price.
rating (1/11/2011):
A bread dough smell, thick legs and a sweet berry taste. With that said I think this cabernet was no show stopper and really made me question drinking cabs again.
rating (12/31/2010):
Deep color, fruity and dry, much better than I thought - don't be put off by screw-top

This is a rather light on the taste cab with cherry and cassis fruit forward. Very light on the tannin acidity. It is a decent everyday wine for people that don't like big, bold cabs.
