Smooth and round, with a lovely open feel to the cherry, currant and loamy earth flavors, lingering on the fine-grained finish. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2012.

The Magnificent Wine Company Winery Image
The Magnificent Wine Company was founded in 2004 by Walla Walla winemaker, Charles Smith, of K Vintners. The Magnificent Wine Company sources its grapes from only the (most) magnificent vineyards throughout the Columbia Valley which provides the freedom to tailor grape selection exactly to Charles' winemaking needs ensuring that each bottle of wine is equally Magnificent from vintage to vintage.

Washington State is the nation's second largest producer of premium wines. Recently recognized by Wine Enthusiast magazine as "Wine Region of the Year", the high-quality, premium wines have earned the state international recognition, critical acclaim and legions of loyal consumers. It's a winning combination that translates into success in the marketplace.

Washington's success with vinifera grapes is due in large measure to the state's unique geography. The vineyards are planted on the east side of the Cascade Mountains which serve to protect the region from marine weather off the Pacific coast and limit rainfall to just 6-8 inches annually. Low rainfall and free-draining soils allow vineyard managers to control vine vigor in order to promote flavor development. Warm daytime temperatures ripen fruit to perfection, while cool autumn nights protect the grapes' natural acidity.

Washington produces so many exciting wines, and that definitely includes Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. With over 10,000 acres under vine, Cabernet Sauvignon is now the most widely-grown varietal in the state. Terrific examples hail from sub-appellations like Red Mountain, Wahluke Slope, Horse Heaven Hills and Walla Walla Valley. One of the fascinations of these Columbia Valley Cabs is that they so often seem to have one foot in the New World and one in the Old. Representing the former are characteristics like the ripe, forward fruit that results from long sunny days during the growing season (up to two hours longer than in much of California). Old World similarities include an undeniable brightness from acidity, as well as notes of herbs, graphite and a dusty, sometimes gravelly minerality.

Whether you’re looking for a budget bottle for everyday enjoyment, or a stellar, world-class wine with tremendous aging potential, Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines can deliver the goods! Among the many fine options are bottles from Columbia Crest, Chateau Ste. Michelle, L’ecole #41, Quilceda Creek and Leonetti.
