This is the tier-two wine from the Egurens' new Toro project, and it's stellar. Intense aromas of black fruit, char and mint start it out. And next up come cola, roasted black fruit, clove and cured-meat flavors. Oak is forward now, but is should settle in a year or so. A dynamic Toro to drink from 2011 through 2018.
"The 2007 Victorino was sourced from 45-year-old vines and aged in new French oak for 18 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it is bigger, more structured, and more concentrated than the Almirez but with slightly rustic tannins. Give it 5-7 years and drink it from 2016 to 2027. "

"Deep ruby. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of candied red fruits, pepper and spices; more expressive than the Almirez but also deeper and more pungent. Then high-pitched and intense in the mouth, with a mineral-driven quality to the sappy red fruit and floral flavors. This rather powerful, velour-textured wine finishes very long, with lingering sweetness and silky, harmonious tannins that fade into the fruit at the close. I like this youthful wine's polish and energy."
International Wine Cellar
"Ripe yet focused, this red offers plum, blackberry, espresso and tobacco flavors, with notes of mineral and herb, firm, well-integrated tannins and a fresh finish. A modern style, but restrained. Drink now through 2016"
