Winemaker's Notes

This is a wine with a very intense, deep red-blue color. It has strong fig and ripe fruit aromas mixed with coffee, toasty and spicy notes. On the palate, it is well-structured and full-bodied, with an interesting combination of oak. A very smooth, harmonious, silky and pleasant wine.

"The 2007 Carmenere Gran Reserva is a saturated opaque purple. Coffee bean, mocha, and blueberry aromas lead to a structured wine with tons of succulent fruit, moderate tannin, and several years of aging potential. If it continues to blossom, it will merit an outstanding rating." 89+ Points
Wine Advocate

Critical Acclaim

"Opaque violet color. Blackcurrant, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, cola, licorice and sexy oak on the nose. Smooth, ripe and sappy, with alluring sweetness nicely balanced and energized by harmonious acidity. Concentrated and sweet, but without any suggestion of heaviness. Finishes long and spicy, with firm but ripe tannins. This would be interesting to taste next to some high-end Napa wines."

The vineyards are protected by the Pacific on the west and the Andes mountains on the east. This could help explain why the climate changes more from east to west than north to south - also why the country has remained phylloxera free....

Learn About Carmenere

Carmenere(car-men-YEHR) Chilean Jewel Carmenere is yet another grape that was eventually exiled from the Bordeaux blend. In the late 1800's, Carmenere was brought over to Chile from France, and it never turned back. For a while, Chilean growers thought this grape was Merlot and labeled their wines as such. But in the early nineties, thanks to DNA...
