Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 15.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The nose is dominated by cranberry and raspberry and spiced with cinnamon, Mexican chocolate, and candied orange peel. The body is able to support a good amount of toasty oak. Knockout fruit and richly spiced flavors and aromas settle into a surprisingly soft subtle finish. The richness of this wine begs for duck confit, roasted rabbit, or game hen.

This is unlike any Zin you'll find elsewhere - a truly exceptional wine. I have given this as gifts to people who don't usually like Zins and they fall in love with it. All of the Terra D'oro wines are nice, but the "Home Vineyard" rises above the rest.

I was going to cellar this for later, but opened one and it was so good. Maybe more "fruity" than some zins, but a great finish.

I am sold on this vineyard. The best zins I've had this year. Wish I had bought more.

I had this at Mark's Bistro in Omaha. It was outstanding. The color is stunning, the taste is bold and slightly fruity, it paired well with cheese and appetizers and would make a versatile pairing for dinner. I'm ordering more for holiday entertaining!
