Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep ruby in color with purple highlights, this wine shows an intense bouquet of red berries offset by notes of leather and incense which are confirmed on the palate, supported by firm, elegant tannins of moderate intensity.

"Plum and fresh mushroom aromas, with a hint of dried dark fruits. Full-bodied, with tangy acidity, slightly chewy tannins and an almost decadent aftertaste of ripe fruit. So delicious already. Hard not to drink now, but a year of bottle age will make this just right. Best after 2010. 10,085 cases made."

This is a secret jem I decided to pick up while I could, even though it is supposed to be best when it is at least 10 years old. If you wait until then you won't be able to get anymore. I had a bottle recently with BBQ ribs and it was incredible. Big wine which stood up to the spicey BBQ sauce. I plan on holding the other in my cellar for a couple of more years to see how it ages. If you like your wines big, bold and complex this is the one for you.
