Alcohol By Volume: 13.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

2007 is a vintage that benefited from the dry soils of a rainless winter. After fermenting from a thick matter where skins were very dominant, all the wines looked black and impenetrable for months; then they started to deepen and open, a process that is still continuing to day. There is no doubt that this vintage's powerful wine will have a long life and will start peaking many years from now.

40 % Cabernet Franc, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot

Critical Acclaim

"Deep garnet in color, there’s a pretty array of spice aromas to begin, black pepper, cumin and mace, with a black cherry and blackcurrant undercurrent. A good backbone of high acid and medium level of fine tannins structure the palate with just enough spice and fruit flavors to fill out the mid-palate. It has good persistence with lingering black cherry and cinnamon notes."

The winery is located in Sarteano in the southeast corner of Toscana, about half way between Florence and Rome. Very interesting and unusual thought processes go into the production of these wines. The vineyards are micro-managed during harvest to find optimal ripeness. Predominate are the two wines: Toscana Rosso and Le Cupole, the Toscana Rosso being a vineyard selection and barrel selection and the Le Cupole being the rest.
