Winemaker's Notes

The Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc blend has year after year been named one of Spain's and the world's great white wine values. The intense floral aromatics, freshness and wonderful texture are the result of the high elevation plantings in lime and gravel soils, with good drainage, that give rise to some of the best quality white wine grapes in Spain.

Critical Acclaim

"This fragrant white offers floral and lychee aromas followed by tangerine and pine flavors, backed by juicy acidity. This shows some power, and appealing liveliness. Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc."
87 Points

"The white wines begin with the 2009 Basa, a blend of 85% Verdejo with the balance Sauvignon Blanc and Viura. Verdejo is usually best standing alone; the additions of Viura (the most common blender) and Sauvignon Blanc are usually used to stretch the wine, not make it better. Such appears to be the case here. It is a crisp, spicy wine with stone fruit, almonds, nutmeg, and floral aromas leading to a dry, savory wine meant for drinking over the next 3 years. This tasty effort is a good value in aromatic white wine."

Notable Facts The white wines of Rueda can be single varietal Verdejo, or they can be blended with other white grapes,...
