Taurino Salice Salentino 1998
Red Wine
from Southern Italy, Italy
winemaker's notes:
Intense ruby red with orange reflections on the outer edge. Intense and persistent nose with aromas of red woodsy berries. On the palate, the wine is dry, well balanced and full bodied with a slightly almond-like finish. Excellent with grilled white and red meats. Also recommended with sausage.

This is one of the two that Wine.Com picked for me and sent as part of my red Wine Odyssey Club Membership in September. And did they ever make a good pick here.
Taking note of the review by the customer in Washington State, I will be reordering this one to share with my girlfriend as well. :)
This Italian red is made from some less than common grape varieties, consisting of 80% Negraomaro and 20% Malvasia Rossa. It paired like a charm with lobster ravioli with red sauce.
The label states that the small oak barrel aging for about six months is unusual for the area, which adds to the grace and the obvious fact that this one is extremely underpriced. This one is sure to please any red lover who can disregard the guilt of not paying enough for it.
A big thanks to Wine.Com for this beauty. I'll be renewing my red Odyssey Club Membership without a doubt.

A slightly naughty wine that resulted in my spouse becoming undressed and vulgar.
