Taltarni Three Monks Cabernet Merlot 2004
Bordeaux Red Blends
from Victoria, Australia
winemaker's notes:
70% Cabernet Sauvignon. 30% Merlot
15 months in two and three year old oak barriques
This wine is deep black cherry in color with an alluring assortment of uplifted black cherries, dark berry fruits and traces of cut rosemary on the nose. You will also notice a hint of scorched almonds, ground coffee, tobacco leaves and licorice allsorts. On the palate it is a well-structured medium body wine with layers of plump plum and blackberry fruits. A mix of savoury spices, subtle herbs and firm, dusty tannins are balanced by good natural acidity.
A perfect accompaniment to a veal ragout. Drink tonight or age for another 5-8 years.

A medium dry dark ruby cabernet blend wine. Some Australian cabs are harsh to my palette, this is not. Neither is it bitterly dry nor uncomfortably sweet. I believe it to be a winner!
