A deep purple colour with distinct deep violet edges and a beautiful assortment of chocolate and vanilla aromas supported by big sweet berry red berries and fresh ripe plums. Released in limited quantities, Taltarni Heathcote Shiraz is a rich flavoured wine to enjoy young and fresh. Cellaring for 10 years and more.
The 500 million year old volcanic soil that makes up Heathcote's unique topography has long been regarded as the reason for such exceptional shiraz. Known as Cambrian earth, the red soil of Heathcote, like the Terra Rossa soil of Coonawarra, is noted for producing wines hallmarked by intense fruit characters and chocolate mint tones.
Sourced from a single vineyard, Taltarni Heathcote Shiraz is cold soaked, fermented on skins for 11 days, then undergoes malo-lactic fermentation in American hogsheads. It is then matured for 16 months in American oak. It is crafted to reflect the distinctive style of the Heathcote terroir and set to complement Taltarni's great family of superb Victorian red wines.

Established in 1969, Taltarni was one of the founding wineries in the iron-rich Pyrenees wine region in Victoria. John Goelet, a direct descendant of the Guestier wine merchant family of Bordeaux, discovered the Taltarni Vineyard through a worldwide search for a site comparable to the great vineyards of Bordeaux. From the outset, Taltarni has a strong French influence with the initial plantings of Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Soon after, Taltarni extended its plantings with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay. The Goelet family also sources Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Taltarni has built its reputation on elegant sparkling wines that are crafted using methode traditionale techniques, as wells as producing exceptional red and white wines. From stickies to Pinot Noir, Victoria is varied in its wines. The southernmost state of Australia, Victoria is third in wine production, after South Australia and New South Wales. The state is home to Yarra Valley as well as other cool climate growing regions, and yet, it also houses the regions of Rutherglen & Glenrowan. These two areas are hot and dusty and famous for their sweet, fortified stickies.
Notable FactsLots of coastline gives Victoria a cool climate, appropriate for growing grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Many new regions are discovering their growing potential – especially with these grapes. Inland is a bit warmer, and some of the best fortified wines are made here,as well as some good shiraz. Victoria also makes the most Sparking Shiraz.

Not a big fan of this one, but it could be because it was a Syrah/Shiraz combo. I'm more a fan of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a screw cap bottle and I'm just not ready to give up the corks yet!312/30/2011
