Our steep, hilly Sleepy Hollow Vineyard is located in the northern part of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. Fruit for Logan Pinot Noir comes from the an area situated in the middle of the hill, where yields are kept low by naturally lean soils and by pruning. With an average yield of 2.5 tons per acre, the combination of mature vines and younger new clonal selections makes a wine of intense complexity, concentration, and nuance.
The 2008 vintage is medium garnet in color. On the nose, this wine shows inviting blueberry, ripe cherry and floral accents, with smoke notes and a touch of minerality. Segueing to flavors of blueberry and cherry cola on the palate, it displays a seamless blend of richness, depth and silky texture that is ready to be enjoyed now and over the next three-to-five years.
The Wine Advocate - "The 2008 Pinot Noir Logan has wild berry and sandalwood notes, a slightly darker ruby color, richer, more dramatic flavors of red and blue fruits, and some nice spice and earth. This beauty is broad, savory, and can be drunk now or cellared for another 7-8 years."
Robert Talbott Sr., his wife Audrey, and their son Robb moved to Carmel, California, in 1950, where they started a luxury tie company. During silk buying trips to Europe for their growing tie business, the Talbotts visited French and Italian vineyards and became interested in fine wines and soon aspired to produce their own California wines, using the Burgundian techniques that they had become passionate about during their European vineyard tours.
They founded Talbott Vineyards in 1982 along with son Robb, with the planting of the 24-acre Diamond T Estate Vineyard and the construction of the first winery in Carmel Valley.
In 1994, when presented with the opportunity, the Talbotts jumped at the chance to acquire the Sleepy Hollow property. With the addition of Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, the Talbotts enjoy the benefits of being a 100 percent estate winery, with direct control of all farming of their vineyards.
Today, Talbott Vineyards produces estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir under four labels: Talbott, Logan, Case, and Kali Hart. Each line of wine is its own "winery within a winery," with its own distinctive style. The largest of California's wine growing regions, the Central Coast produces the majority of California's wine. The district sprawls out, covering most of the vineyard land between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Smaller sub-AVAs of the Central Coast include Monterey Bay, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains and many others.
Notable FactsGrape varieties range from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. Some Central Coast wine is generic, bulk wine that contributes to the high production numbers of the area. But many winemakers and wineries, particular in some of the smaller AVAs, are small production artisans, creating unique and high-quality wine. The great thing about the Central Coast is its diversity - you're able to find a number of grape varieties and styles at a number of different price points.

Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.
