Winemaker's Notes

The Tablas Creek Vineyard Côtes de Tablas Blanc is a blend of four estate-grown white Rhône varietals: Viognier, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, and Roussanne. The wine, like most wines of the Southern Rhône, is a blend of varietals, featuring the aromatics and fruit of the Viognier, the flavors and clean minerality of the Marsanne and Roussanne, and the crisp acids and rich mouthfeel of the Grenache Blanc.

The 2006 Côtes de Tablas Blanc is Tablas Creek's fifth national release of its Viognier-based white blend. It features spicy aromas of herbs, stone fruits and minerals are followed in the mouth by apricot flavors, rich texture, bright acidity, and a long, clean, peachy finish.

Food pairings: mussels Mariniere, green salads with avocado and citrus dressing, scallops, ceviche, light fish (halibut, sole) with tropical salsa.

"This beautiful wine is performing better out of bottle than it did last year from tank. A blend of 59% Viognier, 32% Marsanne, and the rest Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, it exhibits aromas of tropical fruits, lemon blossom, grapefruit, crushed rocks, and quince. This medium-bodied, dry, personality-filled white is best consumed over the next 2-3 years." 90 Points

"Bright yellow. Spicy orange and lime on the nose, with a dusty mineral quality adding interest. Racy, sharply focused citrus zest and green apple scents gain weight with air, picking up a light apricot character. Offers gentle sweetness on the long, spicy finish." 89 Points

Paired with chunky fresh crab cakes, this was fantastic! Drinks like a far more expensive white burgundy. Short on the finish, but makes up for it with white peach that creates something far better than the sum of the parts. I am back ordering a case today!

Learn About Tablas Creek Map ItMap It

The Perrins of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas, their importer since 1970, founded Tablas Creek Vineyard in 1990. They chose their 1600-foot elevation site in West Paso Robles' Las Tablas because of its chalky clay soils and its climate similar to the southern Rhone Valley. They imported selected French cuttings of Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah and Counoise and multiplied, grafted and planted their own vines, which they farm organically. This blended wine, in the image of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, is 100% estate-grown and bottled.

Learn About Rhone White Blends

Other white grapes may be included in miniscule amounts, but the above four are the principles. In the Rhone, Viognier is typically alone in the Northern Rhone and absent in the Southern Rhone, although, in the north, 20% of the variety...
