This special cuvee is presented to show just how elegant, fragrant and balanced Napa hillside Zinfandels can be. It is a step beyond vineyard designation, and represents style as much as place. Most of the grapes come from the heart of our east facing vineyards; it is the balance and finesse of east facing vineyards that give the wine its name.
"The eastern exposures on Jerry Seps's Calistoga mountainside get the cooler morning sun, which matures fruit to the velvet richness of this wine, emphasizing blackberries rather than prunes. The tannins are warm and mineral, as if those fresh blackberries were roasting on hot rocks. It's a dense zin suited to boar ragù."
