winemaker's notes:
The 1998 vintage was one of the warmest, driest ripening seasons in Marlborough for many years, which has resulted in a beautifully ripe and intensely flavoured Sauvignon Blanc. The bouquet displays vibrant tropical fruit and capsicum; flavours which also follow onto the palate. The rich fruit and herbaceous flavours on the palate combine with a crisp dry finish.

Am enjoying a glass of the Stoneleigh 97 as I write...wonderful nose of ripe green olives and herbs...smooth, nice acids with oily, olive, grassy notes...very much like a fine Sancerre. Tasted the 98 at London Wine Trade Fair..it displayed more grassy, hay, notes...less body than 97..and a bit more acidic..why not try laying a bottle or two down and see what happens in another 6 months ...you never know with the quality of Sauvignon Blanc coming from New Zealand these days!

Very different than California Sauvignon Blanc. But I enjoyed it greatly! Very grassy, but balanced.
