Winemaker's Notes

St. Francis released its first "Old Vines" Zinfandel in 1989. The grapes were hand-harvested from a 75 year old vineyard in Sonoma County. Since that first release, St. Francis has added numerous small old vine vineyards to our Zinfandel family. To meet our "old vines" criteria the vineyards must be 50 years and older, many are 80 to 100 years of age.

The 1999 "Old Vines" Zinfandel is again a big bold flavored Zin that you would expect from these ancient vines. Rich in character and texture, layers of complex flavors unfolding on the palate makes this wonderfully jammy Zin a favorite with St. Francis Zinophiles.

St. Francis Vineyards & Winery, located in the heart of Sonoma County, produces big, bold, full-bodied wines that over deliver on flavor. Each wine is made from 100% hand-picked, Sonoma County fruit and are direct expressions of winemaker Tom Mackey, whose philosophy calls for "maximum extraction, minimal interaction."

St. Francis achieves critical acclaim from the wine media who refers to it as The House of Big Reds. Among its many accolades, St. Francis was recently named International Red Wine Maker of The Year by the London International Wine Challenge.
