winemaker's notes:
Color: Deep Red
Boquet: A predominance of dark berry fruit derived characters. Tar and blackberry notes are especially to the fore. Extra complexity is derived from barrel ageing on fine lees. This adds a toasty gamey dimension to the wine.
Palate: Good fruit concentration that sits well with the oak and fruit tannin. This wine is muscular. The richness carries through to a long toasty finish.

I first tasted this wine in Christchurch, New Zealand while dining at a chic sushi restaurant. The flavors are exquisite and lend a wonderful pallate that could probably go well with anything! Upon traveling the North and South Islands of NZ, I never again found this wine. I am so glad that Wine.com is now carrying it; we will be ordering it for our wedding!

The winemaker's notes say that this wine has a predominance of dark berries, and they're not kidding. Absolutely delicious. Drink this wine by itself; don't let anything distract you from such wonderful flavor. The '02 is supposed to be better, but I think the '01 wins. It's cheaper, too.
