Frederick Victor Corkrum played football for Whittman College in Walla Walla. His father, Uriah, was dead set against it. School was alright, he thought, but football was downright frivolous, kept a man from his family and work. In fact, Uriah got so angry about Fred's refusal to quit the sport that he wouldn't speak to him for an entire year.
